Magento 2 automatically generates new URL keys for products in certain cases, e.g. when renaming the product. In such cases Magento 2 does also generate rewrites automatically. In order to remove URL rewrites resulting from the old and inappropriate product settings, you can use the MageSuite URL regeneration feature. You can trigger the URL regeneration on both product and category level.
In order to regenerate URLs on product level access CATALOG / INVENTORY / PRODUCTS. In the
product grid find the products for which the URL regeneration should take place and mark the checkboxes in the select column on the very left side. Now click the ACTION select and choose
“REGENERATE URLS”. For the selected products both old URL keys should be removed and the new URL structure should be applied.
In order to regenerate URLs on category level access CATALOG / INVENTORY / CATEGORIES. In the category tree on the left select the category (you can also select the root category for use the URL regeneration for all the products and categories contained in the root category). In the top section on the right-hand side click the “ARROW” button next to the REGENERATE URLS button. Here you have two options:
“ONLY THIS CATEGORY”: The URLs for this category and the products located in this category will be regenerated.
“THIS CATEGORY AND SUBCATEGORIES”: The URLs for this category as well as all its
sub- categories and the products located in the sub-categories will be regenerated.
