3.7.10. Category meta tag generation (based on filters)
Within MageSuite’s SEO meta tag generator you are able to create meta tags based on the user’s selection of filters. It is an extended configuration, global changes can be made in the chapter Category meta tag generation.
Meta tags can be found in the header of an HTML document and they are not directly visible to your website’s visitor. However, a SEO meta tag is crucial since they can contain detailed information and search engines such as Google use meta data from meta tags to understand additional information about the webpage. They can also use this kind of information for ranking purposes or to display snippets in search results.
In order to configure your SEO meta tags go to your desired category. In the Magento admin panel navigate to CATALAG / INVENTORY / CATEGORIES. Open up your tab SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION.
Here you will find a table with your defined rules and a button that allows creation of new rules for your selected category.
Create a new rule by clicking on CREATE NEW RULE and a new interface will open up. Here the following settings can be set.
RULE NAME: Name your rule in this text field.
In following text fields, two directives can be used. To display current category name use
{{category_name}} or {{filter_values}} to display values of selected filters.
META TITLE: Entries in this field will be adopted to your category’s meta title.
META DESCRIPTION: Entries in this field will be adopted to your category’s meta description.
SORT ORDER: In this field you can set your rules priority. Rules are processed in order specified by
sort order field. It is important to take into account that first valid rule found is applied. Other rules are not processed anymore if some rule was already matched to current filters selection. For instance, you set your categories’ “sort order” for this rule as “3” and there is another rule set as “1” then rule “1” will be applied. If no rule with sort order “1” is found, then a rule with sort order “2” will be applied. The first matched rule will be used, and all other rules are ignored.STORE VIEW: Within this selector you can choose in which store views the settings above should be used in.
Underneath your rules you need to determine conditions for each of your specific rule.
Define your conditions which must be met in order to apply your rule. Here are multiple conditions possible.
If ALL of these conditions are TRUE: When all of following values are met, the rule will be applied.
If ALL of these conditions are FALSE: When all of following values are not met, the rule will be applied.
If ANY of these conditions are TRUE: When any of following values are met, the rule will be applied.
If ANY of these conditions are FALSE: When any of following values are not met, the rule will be applied.
In the following two basic types of conditions are to be determined.
FILTER IS SELECTED: This will return true when a specified filter has at least one of the below value
selected
FILTER VALUE: This will return true when defined values were selected within your filter. The figure abovedemonstrates an example of above rules for certain categories.
If the filter for “size“ is selected and at least one of these sizes (28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 36, 38) are selected then your rule will be applied and SEO meta tags are accordingly adjusted.
Once, you are finished with your conditions and settings click „SAVE“ on the upper part on the right
- hand side.
